Help Support the Credit Card Competition Act

Aug 17, 2023by Jennifer Luna

I had the incredible opportunity to fly to DC last month and meet with US Senators and Representatives, advocating on behalf of all small businesses and consumers for credit card swipe fee reform. It is my third highest expense behind only payroll and rent and it is non-negotiable. I pay almost double my personal salary in credit card swipe fees and I’m the one pouring in the blood, sweat and tears.

My op-ed about this issue was published in the Seattle Times on August 10th. Click here to read it!

The bill we’re advocating for, The Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA), will simply introduce competition in the credit card processing market to breakup the duopology Visa and Mastercard currently have. Despite the lies the big banks are literally spending millions on to tell you, your credit card rewards will NOT go away. They just might have to pay a little bit more out of their BILLIONS of dollars of profits to provide them. They also don’t tell you that the average American family spends on average $1,000 in credit card fees one way or another every single year.

Now, I am asking for YOUR help. I am trying to get Washington Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell to co-sponsor and support the CCCA. Please join me in calling on them (or your local senators and reps) to support this bill and take on excessive credit card swipe fees! The Credit Card Competition Act is essential to leveling the playing field for small retailers and fixing the broken and unfair credit card markets.

As a small business, we’re already fighting to survive with rising rates of theft, vandalism, and inflation. You’re going to continue seeing beloved businesses close if we don’t do something. This is your opportunity to make a difference. All you need to do is fill out your information on this page to show your support (link also in bio):

Advocating on behalf of something that can actually help small businesses and our communities has given me a renewed sense of hope after the past few years. I hope you will join me in making a difference.
